Auto-moderation: the right level

Gentle, Standard or Strict: what the three levels do exactly and which one fits your server.

In the Free planabout 5 minUpdated October 5, 2026

Auto-moderation deletes spam and invite links to other servers. It can briefly mute troublemakers, even when nobody from your team is online.

What the levels do

ProtectionGentleStandardStrict
Spam (messages in 5 seconds)more than 8: delete messagemore than 5: 10 min timeoutmore than 4: 15 min timeout
Invite links to other Discord serversdeletedeletedelete
Many mentions in one message–5 or more: 10 min timeout4 or more: 10 min timeout
Anti-raid (many joins)–10 or more in 10 sec: kick8 or more in 10 sec: kick

Timeout means the person can’t write for a while. In the dashboard, this action is called “Mute”.

Which one fits?

  • Gentle: small servers and groups of friends, if you want to avoid false alarms.
  • Standard: most community and crime RP servers.
  • Strict: large public servers and police or EMS RP servers.
  • Not sure? Go with Standard. You can switch at any time.

How it works

  1. Open the pageDashboard

Open Auto-moderation in the menu on the left. On phones, you’ll find it at the bottom under Modules.

  2. Choose a levelDashboard

If nothing is turned on yet, No protection active yet — quick start appears at the top. Click Gentle, Standard or Strict; the level is saved right away. If something is already turned on, this box isn’t shown. Then you set up 🛡️ Spam Protection, 🔗 Link / Invite Filter, 📣 Mention Spam and 🚨 Anti-Raid by hand and can use the values from the table.

  3. Log channelDashboard

As the Log Channel, choose a channel only your team can see, for example #mod-log. Every action is listed there.

  4. Exempt your teamDashboard

Open every section you’ve turned on (🛡️ Spam Protection, 🔗 Link / Invite Filter, 📣 Mention Spam, and 🤬 Word / Regex Filter if you use it) and add your team roles under Exempt Roles. Each section has its own field. Otherwise the protection also hits your moderators.

  5. SaveDashboard

    Click Save settings.

Optional: under 🤬 Word / Regex Filter, enter words to be deleted in Banned words (one per line). You only need Enable Regex Mode if you know regular expressions.

Check in Discord

  • Post a Discord invite link from a second account without a team role. The bot deletes it, and an entry appears in the log channel.
  • Testing with your own account isn’t reliable: no bot can mute the server owner or members with the Administrator permission.

Common problems

Nothing happens.

Is the section turned on and saved? Does the person have an exempt role? If their role sits above the bot role, the bot isn’t allowed to punish them: Bot doesn’t assign the role.

Too many false alarms.

Go one level gentler, or enter a higher number under Messages before action (5 sec window).

Anti-raid kicks real members, for example during an event.

Increase Joins in time window or turn anti-raid off for a while.
