What you need first

How it works

  1. Open the pageDashboard

Open Welcome in the menu on the left. On phones, you’ll find the page at the bottom under Modules.

  2. Type of messageDashboard

In the 📨 Welcome Message section, choose the Message type. 💬 Normal is plain text, 🎨 Embed is a box with a title, color and image.

  3. Where to send itDashboard

Under Send as, choose 📢 Channel (in the channel, visible to everyone) or 📩 Private (DM). Tip: use the channel. Members who don’t allow direct messages from server members won’t get the DM.

  4. Write the textDashboard

Write your text in Message. The bot fills in these placeholders itself: {user} mentions the new member, {username} is their display name, {server} the server name, {members} the member count. Example: “Welcome to {server}, {user}! Check out #rules first.” Up to 2000 characters. If you leave the field empty, the bot posts “Willkommen auf dem Server, @Name! 👋” (German for “Welcome to the server”), so write your own text for an English-speaking server. Next to it (on phones below it), How it looks in Discord shows your message with sample values, and What you can use in texts lists all placeholders, mentions and formatting — one click inserts them.

  5. Choose the channelDashboard

Under Welcome Channel, choose the channel. This field only appears for “Channel”.

  6. Auto roleDashboard

Open 🎭 Auto Role on Join and choose the role for new members under Automatically assign role.

  7. Watch for warningsDashboard

If This role sits above the bot role. … or The bot is missing the "Manage Roles" permission. … appears below it, the bot can’t assign the role yet. The fix is in Bot doesn’t assign the role.

  8. SaveDashboard

Click Save settings at the very bottom. ✓ Saved appears at the top.

To turn it off, set the channel to — No channel selected — or the role to — No auto role — and save.

Check in Discord

  • Have a second account or a friend join. The welcome message appears in the channel, and the role shows up in their profile.

Common problems

No welcome message appears.

Is a channel selected and saved? If the channel was deleted in Discord, select it again. With “Private (DM)”, the member may not allow direct messages.

The role isn’t assigned.

Usually the bot role is too low: Bot doesn’t assign the role.

My role is missing from the list.

@everyone and roles that Discord manages itself (booster, bot and integration roles) can’t be assigned by any bot, so they’re not in the list. A new role shows up after one to two minutes; then reload the page.
